Greyson's Room Completion

The room is finally done, at least in terms of items being added....for now. I'd still love to put the owl in a cage, but finding a cage has turned out to be harder than I'd expected.

The drapes open via remote, the lights turn on and off via remote and the moon comes on and off via remote. And the remote is a wand! We haven't showed Greyson the wand yet, we plan to do that Monday night.

The moving picture frame is hung but not yet hooked up to the laptop. I have to wipe one and put Ubuntu on it, as well as whip up some nice moving video clips to put on a loop. In time we'll let Grey know that he can also watch movies on it. That will be huge as he's been asking for a TV for his room for quite some time now.

Once we give him the wand and show him how to "magically" open the drapes, turn on the lights etc. I'll shoot some video of the magic in action and post it.

A result of a Groupon for Canvas on Demand. This was a picture of Greyson dressed as Harry Potter last Halloween.

Sorting hat hung on the wall along with his robe.

This is where the moving pictures will be (Harry Potter Style).  It's an old 19" monitor stripped out of the plastic housing and framed.  Originally tried to use laptop display panels but ran into complications in getting the right connectors. This will be hooked up to a laptop.

Under the bed are his book cases. The drapes on the window, closet and under the bed are all the same material.  The trunk under the picture frame is where the laptop will "hide".

 Closed shown closed.

We're still debating and trying to figure out WHAT to put in front of the castle. Thoughts are a futon or some bean bag chairs. Can't go over 30" though, that is the where the castle mountain begins.

Door to bathroom, added a Hogwarts Crest to the door.

 Closet partially opened.

Under the bed opened.

Window drapes closed.

Black sheets and deep maroon blanket, he's all set!

Nearly done with the room

Over labor day weekend my aunt and uncle came to visit and I put my uncle to work with paint.

Greyson's Room Update

Been awhile since I posted an update. Progress has been good but slow at times.  A few weeks ago we took all the tape off the walls and I did lots of touch up.

His closet organizer is coming along nicely as well.

The next set of picture show the progress made this week. We are almost finished with the closet, just need to cut the hanger rods and install them.  We built his bed, put the shelves under it and put the Harry Potter WallArt up.  He started sleeping in his new room Friday night even though we aren't finished yet.

Bed made up with stuffies migrated.

Happily sleeping in his new bed.

Grey's New Room - Faux Stone

The faux stone effect is coming along. We spent quite a few hours on Sunday with Eric and Jill helping out doing painting and got most of the stone part done. Just a little bit do go and of course the part that sucks: up close to the ceiling.

A long day of taping

Despite our best plans life got in the way all week preventing us from working on the room in the evening.  Thus, Saturday was designated TAPE THE ROOM day.  The color that is on the walls now will become the cement or grout between the faux stone blocks.  The first step then is to use tape to create the stone blocks. When we are done with the faux finish for the blocks and remove the tape, we'll have something that looks like grout in between them. At least that's the plan.

First step:We used a laser level with an adapter to shoot the laser as a horizontal line. Then just follow the lines with the tape. Hallway door and closet on the left.

Bathroom door.

Greyson is happy with his room so far.

After the horizontal lines were done we "simply" added the vertical lines! The large un-taped space will be an evening view out a magic window showing Hogwarts.

Closet and attic entrance. Someday I'd like to do something with that.
